There’s an arsenal of aesthetic treatments out there to shape our body, but we still love our good ol’ slimming gels and cellulite creams. JANICE YONG picks the best.

WHILE THERE ARE “big guns” at the doctor’s clinic that promise to melt away fat and iron out cellulite, not every woman is keen to take such drastic – and costly – measures. The alternative: use a slimming gel or cellulite buster, or both, depending on your problem.

While having some fat on the body is essential – for healthy skin and hair, and cell function, to maintain a constant body temperature and as energy stores for the body – the problem is when the fat is concentrated in areas like the hips, thighs and tummy.

Basically, when you eat more than what your body needs, the liver converts the excess energy into triglycerides, which are then stored in fat cells. When these fat cells become saturated, they recruit pre-adipocytes, which then become new storage cells for fat.

Here’s our pick of gels and creams to help you shape your body.
