You know your skin is sensitive when it reacts badly to certain products. It may show up as a rash, itch, flake, tingle, become sore, swollen or red, or feel unusually “hot” and uncomfortable. Dr Eileen Tan, dermatologist at Eileen Tan Skin, Laser and Hair Transplant Clinic characterises sensitive skin as that which experiences recurrent irritation. If irritation occurs within hours of using a new product, the product is likely to blame. Unfortunately, some reactions take weeks or months to show up. And worse, it may not be a single product but a combination of products that triggered the irritation.
