let's talk about health

Get free advice on topics like infertility and family wellness, even interact with healthcare practitioners, at webinars – all without leaving your home or office.

Three months ago, accountant Pauline Teo*, 35, wanted to attend a workshop about infertility with her husband James*, who was away on a week-long business trip. His absence, however, didn’t stop them from attending the same seminar together – online, that is. The couple listened to the presentation in real time from their laptops – Pauline at home in Singapore and James in his hotel room in London – and they communicated with the presenter by typing out their questions and sending them to the workshop moderator.

Webinars, or web-based seminars, are not new. Companies have long used them to train busy executives on the go. But now, healthcare professionals are embracing the technology as a practical alternative to venue-based health education seminars. So, instead of turning up at a workshop about, say, depression, weight management or infertility, you can sign up for a webinar by a specialist and get answers to your health questions (even embarrassing or private ones) – in the comfort of your home or offi ce. You save time, and unlike webcasts, you also get to interact with the presenter.

Sure, health seminars are ideal if you lead a mobile lifestyle or are always busy; but beyond convenience, we wanted to know how well they addressed the issues at hand. Four Simply Her readers tested out some popular ones and gave us their verdict:

VERDICT
“I’m planning to start a family so I joined a webinar on pregnancy to alleviate my fears about being pregnant. The session was held during my lunch hour, which fit perfectly into my schedule. “It was easy to understand and the doctor addressed my queries promptly. I may join another webinar as it’s a good way to get information and to ask more private questions.”
