Sequins, big florals and
animal prints are all the
rage now. Think they’re too
hard to wear? JANICE PIDDUCK
shows three readers the
right way to pull them off.
SHINE IN SEQUINS WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE A DISCO BALL
“I love wearing sequins for parties but I’m seeing so much of them in the shops that I want to work them into my daytime look too.” KENNY SANTIKA, 38, STAY-AT-HOME MUM
HOW TO PULL IT OFF
• Look for sequinned pieces in understated colours like grey, gold, beige, black or navy blue. Avoid green and red – you don’t want to look like a Christmas tree ornament.
• Mix sequinned separates with neutral-coloured pieces.
• Choose small sequins.
• Go for slightly matte ones.
• Give full-on sequinned numbers a miss – we can’t remember when they were fashionable!
• Look for pieces that have a slight sequin detailing, like a panel. Stay away from those with tacky sequinned patterns, words or phrases
WORK ANIMAL PRINTS WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE AN AUNTIE
“Animal prints used to be synonymous with bad taste, but I’m surprised they can actually look quite classy!” YOMMANA BIERMAN, 28, STAY-AT-HOME MUM
HOW TO PULL IT OFF
• Opt for prints that are slightly abstract; the item shouldn’t look like it belongs on an actual animal.
• Tees and tops with pictures of wild animals are passe – strike them out!
• Look for items in a modern brown, black, grey or beige. They should have a slight safari feel about them too.
• Choose a clean and simple print over a loud one.
• Wear animal prints with a clean white tee and denim for a more casual feel. For work, team a well-cut printed dress with solid coloured accessories.
• Give clingy, body-hugging pieces a miss. No matter how slim or toned you are, they’ll just make you look tarty.
